Members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 640 recently earned their Bronze Award. It is a leadership adventure and the highest award a Junior can earn. Their service project was to promote literacy and joy of reading to younger children in the community. They created an animal themed story time. Each girl chose a book and activities to go along with it. Over the summer the girls had to work 20+ hours each to prepare for the story time and literacy project. This included preparing crafts, take home packets, songs, and practicing their books. The story time was held at the Havre de Grace Public Library on Sept. 28th at 2 p.m. All of the children enjoyed the stories, animal mask craft, and their take home bag.
The Girl Scouts also helped with book drives and donated books to Harford Family House and other places in Havre de Grace. They also helped to start a lending library at HFH donating books and cataloging them. On August 20th they had a story time with the children there to celebrate the opening of the lending library.
The Girl Scouts who earned the award are: Anna Jones, Maggie Kilmon, Anna Luzzato, Delaney Mezan, Madeline Ransford, Stephanie Steinhilber, and Autumn Twombly .
