More than 140 people laughed their way through New York Times-bestselling author Lisa Scottoline's book talk at the Abingdon Library the evening of Thursday, May 29. Scottoline was the featured speaker at "A Night Out @ the Library," a yearly fundraiser organized by the Harford County Public Library Foundation.

"Lisa Scottoline has many fans in Harford County and beyond," said Mary Hastler, director of Harford County Public Library. "Her books are page-turners filled with relatable, compelling characters and storylines that are hard to put down. We were honored to have her join us for 'A Night Out @ the Library,' a much anticipated event every year."

The Headlining Sponsor of "A Night Out @ the Library" was The Kelly Group. Other sponsors included Flowers by Laney, Harford Style Magazine, Manns Woodward Studio, Inc., and MediaWise, Inc.

"What a terrific evening the Harford County Public Library Foundation arranged for the fans of Lisa Scottoline," said Bill Kelly, co-founder of The Kelly Group and The Headlining Sponsor of "A Night Out @ the Library." "The Kelly Group loves supporting the library, and this event was enjoyed by everyone who attended. It was a pleasure to be part of it."

Pairings Bistro, Jim's Bottleworks and Coffee Coffee provided food and drinks for the pre-event reception.

Funds raised by "A Night Out @ the Library" will be used toward the Havre de  Grace bulding project.

Scottoline is the author of 22 novels. More than 30 million copies of her books are in print and have been  published in 35-plus countries.

During her talk in Harford County, Scottoline discussed her love of libraries. "I love books," she said. "Libraries matter. "They connect us all to one another."

Scottoline also discussed how she went from being an attorney to writing professionally. "I write about what's emotionally true," she said. "I lived the emotional truth, if not the literal truth."

Her most recent book, "Keep Quiet," debuted in April. It's the story of a father, trying to get closer to his teenage son, who makes a split-second decision that changes the life of his family that could lead to ruin unless he can save them.

Scottoline's books have landed on bestseller lists at The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Publisher's Weekly, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times. "Look Again" was named by The Washington Post as "One of the Best Novels of the Year" in addition to being named one of the best books in the world as part of World Book Night 2013.

One of the guests at "A Night Out @ the Library," Abingdon resident Lynne Degen, said, "From the very first moment she started talking, she had us totally enthralled. Such humor and true-life stories brought me to tears from laughter. I want to go back and read some of her books again."
