The history of the U.S. Lighthouse Service from its colonial origins to today's Coast Guard management.  The lighthouse administration, the building materials, and the lighting systems will all be discussed.  The presentation will highlight the people of the service including an in depth discussion of five women keepers.

Mary Rasa worked for 16 years as a museum curator and park ranger for the National Park Service.  She has extensive experience in conducting public programs and oral histories interviews.  She also has written many brochures and exhibit materials as well as managing an extensive museum collection. Mary is now on the staff of the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum.

The Havre de Grace Maritime Museum is located in front of the Concord Point Lighthouse along the water. The museum's mission is "to collect, document, preserve and interpret the maritime skills and heritage of the Susquehanna River and the Upper Chesapeake Bay." Inside of the museum, various nautical artificacts are showcased, and many programs are offered such as wooden boatbuilding classes, historical lectures, maritime concerts and nautical demonstrations.
