I need some music when I run.
Hearing myself pant like a dog isn't motivating. If anything, it's disctracting and discouraging.
I can run with relaxing music or with louder, energizing music. Both seem to work at different points in my run.
So, having an application on my phone to not only play the music I have pre-loaded, but also to record my run, is a phenomenal bonus.
I've been using the Nike+ Running app for my iPhone. It enables me to track my runs—distance, where I ran, time, splits, etc.—and it also helps me get through the run.
There are plenty of other options, though.
A quick search of my iPhone apps store gives me the following:
- MapMyRUN GPS
- RunKeeper - GPS
- runtastic
- Personal Running Trainer
- iRunner
- 5K Runner
- Get Running (Couch to 5K)
All of those are free. And the title alone of that last one is intriguing for me.
What apps do you use when you run? Or is there another way you get through and record your workouts? Let me know!

I use RunKeeper. I like it because it creates graphs of your progress, maps where you go and it sends you alerts when you've beat your personal bests!
