Group Protests McDonough, Calls Him 'Racist Bigot'

A group of about 16 people brought their message of protest against Del. Pat McDonough right to the doorstep of the Pikesville radio station where the Middle River Republican hosts a Saturday night talk show.

The group held their protest Saturday night along Reisterstown Road near the WCBM Studios. They held signs calling McDonough a "racist bigot," and some in Spanish, called for the passage of a bill that would grant in-state tuition rates to some illegal immigrants, and chanted "Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho, Pat McDonough has got to go."

The event was designed to bring negative attention to McDonough's recent comments about violence near the Inner Harbor, which he attributed to "black youth mobs" and the delegate's opposition to the illegal immigrant tuition bill.

Andrew Castro, a local organizer with the Baltimore Chapter of the ANSWER Coalition, called the delegate's "Speak English" campaign "completely xenophobic."

"We feel Pat McDonough is a racist bigot that manipulates facts to demonize, criminalize black and Latino youth, and he's had a very long history of demonizing undocumented Latinos here in Maryland," Castro said.

The ANSWER Coalition supports the tuition bill and has criticized McDonough for his involvement in an effort to place the issue on the ballot in November.

The group set up outside on Reisterstown Road near the studio hoping that McDonough would see them as he arrived for his 8 p.m. show. One protestor said she thought she saw him pull into the parking lot and run right into the station.

But the sighting didn't happen.

McDonough was finishing up a week of vacation in South Carolina. His radio program was a repeat from earlier in the year.

Reached by phone, McDonough said his opponents were the ones using "hate speech."

"They're nothing but a left-wing group that likes to throw around hate speech to demonize people who are doing their jobs," McDonough said during the phone interview Saturday night.

McDonough shrugged off accustions that he's a racist.

"The idea of me being a racist is ridiculous," McDonough said. "The things I am doing would not even qualify me for membership in the Klan."

You are correct! BUT, us taxpayers iliving in The People's Republic of Maryland will soon be losing even MORE of our hard earned dollars to the Tax & Spend government of Owe'Malley, Busch, Miller, Valaro, and the rest of the Annapolis crowd that hides legislative issues that truly matter to the citizens of the State and push through their personal agenda issues that cost us even more.

Oops! I forgot.....Maryland is a sanctuary state for illegal aliens and an entitlement state for all those that are too lazy to get a job. They have become so use to NOT having to work and getting taxpayer money for free! By manipulating the system (a criminal act!) they don't have to work, pay for medical insurance, or buy their own cell phone, or pay the bill for thosecell phones, or pay for food for their familes!

Is Pat McDonough correct? Damed right he is!

The few that are always raising rediculous issues, like the Answer Coalition and other minute sized groups always get the most attention from the majority of politicians. REDICULOUS!

When Pat Posted that comment about the problems in the Inner Harbor it was a fact.
Maybe it helped to bring it to everyones attention. Certainly didn't look good for the police department or the people who lived downtown.Evidently, the event celebrating the 200th anniversary of Stars Spangled Banner went off without a hitch.
Have to get past a bad experience and move on.
No matter how you look at it the immigration laws should be respected. If people pay into fund to "hopefully" have money for their later years, it should be there for them.if our taxes are taken out to support schools why not have the money to properly educate our children ? Everyone should have an opportunity to live a good life but pay your own way. This has nothing to do with racism but just plain facts.

I jus tdon't understand why anyone wants to go into the downtoan area of Baltimore CIty. I retired in January, 2004 and in the 100 months since I retired I have only been within the Baltimore CIty limits for 1 time and that was for 39 minutes (yes I timedit with my watch) to visit a funeral home to pay my respoects to a neighbor's deceased daughter.

Sailabration??? Give me a break. What am I supposed to do? Drive downtown, search for a parking spot (for which I'll pay a ton of maney), hope that none of the "at risk youth" who prowl the streets decide to break into my car while I'm gone, to see what? A bunch of old sailing ships and newer naval vessels? The same ones I can see on TV for free from the air-conditioned comfort of my own home? I just don't get it.

Regardless of what Pat McDonough says (and I believe he speake the truth) Baltimore City is a sewer and a loss for several generations to come.

I love the city! Born and raised there, 2 kids have moved there. It's a good place to live, and the "roving mobs" have been overblown.
I go to the Sunday Morning Farmers' Market, Fells Point, Museums, Theater, Concerts and The Opera. The Harbor Promenade which starts in Canton and travels along the Inner Harbor to the far side of the Harbor (I think all the way to Domino Sugar) is a wonderful walk.
There's a lot of good in Baltimore City. Sailabration was a huge success. Parking was handled well. If you missed, it, well, it's your loss. But that's OK, too.

I used to live in the northeast corner of the city. Great times there. That was 30-40 years ago. It is no secret that the city has HUGE crime problems and many random acts of violence. Just because everything was fine for Sailabration doesn't mean the problem went away. Two blocks over from where you were walking they would have thought nothing of beating you to death for the $10 you had in your pocket. Also, I'm pretty sure that illegal immigrants means they are here illegally, yes? Become a citizen, pay taxes, and the big hearted USA will be glad to help you out. Don't ask for freebees otherwise.

The ISSUES are the critical message, regardless of who delivers them. The issues must be identified and brought to light. In that light, we should thank the Delegate for his courage and foresight!

Dream Act.
“How About an American DREAM Act [For U. S. Citizens - For Maryland Citizens JGwen]?” Try considering the content of the DeAngelis article.

That ANSWER Coalition and their cohorts have “Gov. Martin O’Malley’s campaign sen(ding) out an email blast this week, asking voters to consider donating up to $100 in support of the Dream Act, should be cold comfort. Rather than trying to use the force of laws to take moneys from hard working tax payers ... why aren't Dream Act advocates using the millions they hope to collect (to ram their cause down already sorely beleaguered citizens throats) to form a Scholarship Fund for undocumented aliens.

Flash mobs, Youth mob violence

The issues are legion. To look away and/or make excuses is to perpetuate lawlessness and further inflame alienation on both sides. The nation and our cities are burning. It is past due time to address the lawlessness. Lawless anarchist societies collapse ... and in the end no one wins!

People in Maryland busting their ass working two jobs to try and help their kids pay for school are not going to pass up the chance to squelch benefits for those that should be shipped back to their native country. "Instate Tuition" is exactly as it is worded. In state benefits offered to those whom live legally and pay taxes to the state tax base for a "given amount" of years. It is a returned PERK to support those local, responsible, long term tax paying citizens which have chosen to attend a "state" college. In all, our state income tax payments made to the state every year fund state colleges. The perk for this high payment is as I described above.

And BTW... Vets should never get in state tuition if they have not settled down into this state after active duty for a few years. They already have a fully paid ticket... the GI BILL.

Be careful not to confuse the issue too much in your rush to show your support for vets. The veterans who qualify have to register within 4 years of discharge. In other words, it is a way to offer instant in-state rates to an ordinary American citizen without them needing to fulfill the residency requirement. That's a nice perk, but hardly a unquestionable dedication to our veterans.

In-state rates for active duty is a different issue. If a service member is in-state without residency it is most likely because they have opted not to file for it. This could be due to their length of stay in Maryland such as TDY where it doesn't make sense or because they prefer the residency they hold during their current Permanent Change of Station. You see this frequently since your PCS can afford you other benefits that outweigh the opportunity to pay in state tuition. That's why you'll see vehicles with Guam license plates in the US, a service member with a PCS covering Guam instantly registers their vehicles there to take advantage of ridiculously low tag and insurance premiums. Same with other states but not to the same level.

Again, hiding this behind veterans is pretty indicative of they way most people regard them. A convenient pawn when necessary and then back into the closet.

You should find another tack.

Some of these are easy, others are hidden

Corporations - oil subsides an easy target. Farm subsidies an easy target. Corp's who keep profits in foreign countries pay Zero tax on those profits. Research and development tax credits. Many more, they amount to entitlements.

Individuals - the following benefits help middle and upper income taxpayers the most. Child care credit, home mortgage interest deduction, 401k and IRAs benefit wealthy people the most. Health insurance payments by employers that are not taxable income. Taxing capital gains and dividends at 15%.

I can go on, but you get my point.

Pure speculation at this point. Both presidential candidates are throwing barbs at each other ( good ole American politics ). I predict a very close race .Obama made a few critical mistakes by pushing programs through that are very controversial.Failure to fully explain the impact Obamacare would have on the puiblic down the road. Probably thought it was a good idea in the beginning . Now he has to defend it and few people in his own party understand it. Romney has to convince the public that his " change" makes more sense. At this point many people are not convinced which one can do the better job. I will vote for the man who can tell the truth.Might have a problem there.

Speaking of laughinstocks....the democrats cannot even afford to have their convention in their original spot! They are only 29 million short. What does that tell you about the enthusiasm gap between koolaid drinking dems versus conservatives? Romney already close to 100 million this month, and that is outside the superpacs. What happened Steve? My bad, all the jewish democrats with deep pockets have left. Obama will not get the catholic vote this time, or the jewish vote, or the bluecollar vote, or the vote of the elderly that are pissed about obamacare. I would not be surprised if Romney wins by 10 percentage points. Having Putin basically laugh outloud at our weak jimmy carter clone counts as being a laughingstock in my book.

who cares what Putin thinks? He's nothing more then a figurehead of a now economically and militarily impoverished country.

The Republican media outlets like to make Putin out to be this powerful leader of a relevant country but the reality is far from it. Playing up the old cold war feelings of the target voting age gen pop

True enough, I'll have to retract that portion - the wording, specifically.

They are, economically speaking, stable now that I re-check my original view.

However, they are still only moderately relevant, sporting a GDP that is barely a tenth of the USA. China, conversely is 50% of the USA.

So impoverished? Perhaps not. Irrelevant? Yep.

Relative to our country, it is.

Additionally, in a hypothetical matchup, I'd suspect China would destroy them. They spend twice as much on their military right now. They have way more purchasing power. Oh and hundreds of million more troops available. If nothing else, they'd win through attrition.

Thank you for proving my point Steve. Obama is a laughinstock due to how Putin and his country's main ally China do not take him in the least bit serious. Putin flexed a muscle, and Obama dropped the missile defense shield in europe. Then Putin flexed a middle finger and voted against every usa sanction in the un, then turned and sent weapons, oil, and supplies to help our enemies in iran and foster instability in the middle east by supplying syria.

this is why I called it a 'hypothetical' above.

Moreover, Escariot: I'm pretty sure that missile shield hasn't been dropped.

That's Putin's prerogative. Russia is a sovereign nation, they can do as they please. The missile shield hasn't been dropped.

You are missing the big point. If the usa has to go into syria for any reason, our troops can be wiped out by russian weapons. Secondly, if we have to go to Iran because of failed sanctions there will be many more deaths than if by airstrike. Who helped iran with their nuclear ambitions by supplying them with vital materials to go around the sanctions? Russia. Lastly, the reason i also feel jimmy obama is a laughinstock is because every time his advisers leaked information there was negative consequences. There is not a middle eastern nation out there that will risk undercover operatives on our behalf after the ny times outed them, not once, but twice.

I will be voting AGAINST providing any assistance to ILLEGAL aliens. I will also be voting FOR anyone othan than the current administration. $4 trillion in increased debt to support, among other things, ILLEGAL aliens. Mind you, Bush was no fiscal conservative, but compared to the current administration, he was a tight-fisted spendthrift.

Escariot: You know full well our troops aren't going anywhere, anytime in the future. Our population alone won't tolerate it.
We've already had to endure two un-necessary "wars". Wars manufactured by greedy capitalist pigs and warmonger jockeys in Washington.

There's no bigger laughing stock of a president then GWB and "the war on terror"
Yeah, how'd that "war on terror" go for us. We were economically stable until he got into office. War in Iraq? A draw, at best in the longer term. "War" in Afghanistan? Lost. Just like Russia 30 years ago.
A shame our 'leaders' can't learn from the past.

Oh, and the cost of those wars? Several trillion on our national debt, and growing.

I honestly believe there's some things to like about Obama's foreign policy:

1) stayed out of the Egyptian peoples way, when asked
2) Made the ballsy call to take out Osama.
3) Getting enough intel out of Pakistan to make #2 happen.
4) using drone strikes, rather then you know, actual troops, to take out literally dozens of terrorists.
5) Successfully forced the rest of the world to take "the lead" in the Libya civil war.
6) to date, refusing to militarily get involved in Syria.
7) Ended the Iraq engagement
8) Putting an end to the Afghanistan fiasco.

He's subtlety been beginning to live up to his inappropriately won Nobel Peace Prize over the past couple years.

Now, he's screwed some stuff up too, make no mistake. The handling of Israel immediately comes to mind.

As I have stated on here before, as an independent i do not support nor defend a lot of george dubya's policies, especially his spending. However, I can easily rebutt every single one of your statements above.
1) Now the Muslim brotherhood have gained power and have already caused aggression against Israel. The military will not support a muslim brotherhood candidate and civil war will ensue shortly. Great call on that one.
2) The call to take out Osama was one that even Jimmy Carter would have made. To make it sound like it was some bold strategy, you are exaggerating. By the way, the intelligence to find the driver and trace him to pakistan came from where/
3) He got the intel out of Pakistan and revealed his asset to the ny times. Since then pakistan has roadblocked our access to roads and caused us billions in dollars doing so. Secondly, the asset is being tortured and will spend 33 years in jail. That is incentive for middle eastern citizens to never stick their neck out again for us.
4) Drone strikes were started by bush, the technology to use them came about during obama's tenor. Did obama support drone strikes or their technology before he came president? The answer is no.
5) By leading from behind in Libya, the obama administration taught those in the middle east that the usa will not back them.
6) His handling of Iran and Israel, as well as Russia is a joke
7) Afghanistan and drone strikes are worthy of a peace medal? That is quaint.

Why is Mexico asking for Holder to be extradited to face crimes there dealing with fast and furious? Why won't the attorney general tell congress and the american people who ordered and approved fast and furious? Tell the family of Brian Terry and the thousands of dead Mexicans killed with fast and furious weapons that it is just a witch hunt.

Fast and Furious case is to hide proof that the operation was part of a push for gun control. Defenders of President Obama's use of executive privilege to provide cover for Attorney General Eric Holder in the gun-running fiasco that resulted in the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and ICE Agent Jaime Zapata may dismiss it as just another conspiracy theory. But the suggestion by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., that the deadly operation was conceived to advance the administration's gun-control agenda is quite plausible.<<<<<<last two words

You would sound a lot more intelligent if you based your arguments on facts, and not opinions. If you read the book about fast and furious by Katie Pavlich, you would be able to read actual documentation and testimony by the whistleblowers concerning the operation. Instead, you choose to be msnbc lite. Msnbc edits out materials that fly in the face of their narratives, while claiming witchhunt or smokescreen such as yourself.

Fortunately, most Americans have common sense. For example, if you are tracking something, you attach transponders that have gps capabilities so they can be followed. Only 2 of the 2000 weapons bought had them. Kind of ends the argument about tracking guns doesn't it?

Escariot

4:20 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2012

By the way Steve, the 25 million and 50 million dollar lawsuits against the atf and other agencies are based on the fact that an atf agent warned everyone involved that somewhere a law enforcement officer would be killed by those same weapons. I hope a jury awards the Zapata and Terry families 300 million.

Congress has the authority to hold a person in contempt if the person's conduct or action obstructs the proceedings of Congress or, more usually, an inquiry by a committee of Congress.

Contempt of Congress is defined in statute, 2 U.S.C.A. § 192, enacted in 1938, which states that any person who is summoned before Congress who "willfully makes default, or who, having appeared, refuses to answer any question pertinent to the question under inquiry" shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a maximum $1,000 fine and 12 month imprisonment.

Before a Congressional witness may be convicted of contempt, it must be established that the matter under investigation is a subject which Congress has constitutional power to legislate

All you have to do is connect the dots to figure out fast and furious. All the attorneys that passed gun control legislation under the Clinton administration are now working in Holder's justice department. The government forced gun dealers to sell those arms to straw dealers by threatening to revoke their federal firearms license if they did not cooperate. Only 2 of the 2000 firearms in question were attached with gps transponder systems, which guarantees that the other 1,998 guns would never be tracked but would wind up at crime scenes. Then, surprise, surprise, after the deaths and crimescenes were reported the justice department tries to pass gun legislation on the very rifles they forced the gun shops to sell. That is why the nra and the gun dealers will win in court with their lawsuit to block this legislation by claiming they were forced to break the law in selling those weapons knowingly to straw dealers. The kicker in all of this is that Holder and Janet "I know nothing" twins have perjured themselves. The operation of fast and furious involved ICE, ATF, FBI, Homeland security, and the IRS that showed gun shops how to hide the money paid for the weapons being sold to straw buyers. Sorry Steve, but it is not plausibe that a bureau chief of the atf would have the authority to order 5 government agencies to cooperate without higher ups signing off.

He will vote the same Democratic ticket as he always has. Steve make the definition of insanity correct. "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" That's what he does and will do in the future.
