Pirate Fest 2013 Includes Encampment, 5K, Party, Pub Crawl

The Susquehanna Museum at the Lock House recently announced that its Pirate Fest is coming to town July 12 to 14 for the sixth year. Did you know you can post your own press releases on Patch? Maryland Governor Visits House of Cards in Harford County

Governor Martin O'Malley touted job creation, tax credits related to film industry.

Gov. Martin O'Malley (D-MD) was on the set of House of Cards in Joppa Tuesday publicizing the benefits of a recently passed film tax credit, the results of which included job creation. House of Cards, the political thriller that was the first series produced by Netflix, filmed its opening season in Harford County last year. It provided 2,200 jobs for Marylanders and brought in more than $140 million for the state, O'Malley said in a prepared statement. Recent legislation provided a key role in the return of the series to Harford County in 2013, O'Malley said. Tall Ships Sailing into Havre de Grace on Friday

Two large vessels will usher in the city's War of 1812 bicentennial commemoration.

Don't be suprised if Havre de Grace is literally booming Friday afternoon. Tall ships are coming, and they are bringing their cannons with them. Two vessels, the Pride of Baltimore II and the Sultana, will dock in Havre de Grace for the city's War of 1812 bicentennial festival, May 3 to 5. "The Pride arrives Friday at high tide under sail, and they should have cannons going on their arrival," Brigitte Peters, manager of tourism for Havre de Grace, told Patch. According to Peters, the Pride will be docked at Hutchins Park, and the Sultana will be at Tidewater Marina. HHS Teachers Do the Harlem Shake

Havre de Grace High School educators got wild in the library.

The Harlem Shake has swept the Internet and now the popular dance has made its way to the hallowed halls of Havre de Grace High School. According to USA Today, there were more than 4,000 Harlem Shake videos uploaded to YouTube each day in February. Havre de Grace High School's version of the routine, filmed in the library, hit YouTube April 25. School Resource Officer Dan Petz kicks it off and the teachers follow his lead. Watch it here.

The Havre de Grace Warrior Pride marching band tooted its horns alongside celebrities and dignitaries recently at the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Havre de Grace High School joined Westminster students in making up the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade Marching Band, which led Saturday's parade in Washington, D.C. "They sounded amazing and looked sharp throughout the parade," Rick Hauf, band director for Havre de Grace High School, said. "Our students represented their school, community and state [at] a very high level!" The Warrior Pride marching band will perform at Havre de Grace High School at 7 p.m. on May 8 and 9 for its spring concert.
