Teen Charged for Allegedly Punching Cop at McDonald’s
The incident occurred at the Havre de Grace fast food restaurant on Route 40.
An 18-year-old Havre de Grace man has been charged with second-degree assault for allegedly hitting a security guard at McDonald's Halloween night.
Around 9 p.m. on Oct. 31, the on-site security guard at the McDonald's on Pulaski Highway in Havre de Grace asked two male teenagers standing near the register to quiet down. He told investigators the youths were being boisterous and using profanity, according to the Havre de Grace Police Department.
That’s when the 18-year-old punched the security guard—who was an off-duty Baltimore City Sheriff, said police. The officer was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital, where police said he was evaluated and released. The two suspects fled the scene.
Havre de Grace police found the 18-year-old at his home on the 800 block of Conesto St. and charged him with second-degree assault on a police officer and failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order.
His 19-year-old companion was found on the 600 block of Erie St. and was charged with failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order and resisting arrest.
Both men have trial dates scheduled for Jan. 7, 2013.

A 18 year old is an ADULT. Old enough to know better.

I'm trying to understand when a police officer was punched. From the details of the story it seems the victim was a McDonalds security guard. Doesn't make it any less of an assault BUT it shouldn't make any difference what the victim does for work somewhere else.

He's a cop. He was assaulted. Therefore he was charged with assaulting a cop. Pretty obvious. Just because he was doing some part time work as a security guard doesn't take away his title as police officer. Police off the clock are still police.

Unless they had knowledge that he was a police officer, it doesn't seem to be an appropriate charge; HOWEVER, I think the idea of assaulting a cop charge is unwarranted. I would hope that it I were assaulted that there would be just as much concern and punishment doled out.

The "security guard" is a Baltimore City sheriff. He was off duty from that job, and working as a guard at McDonald's. Read the entire article. Also, I agree with Jim Miller....these two are adults. Their names should be published. I want to know if my kids are in school with these delinquents. At least the 18 year old.

Police officers should command respect just for the dangerous job they do every day. This one was OFF DUTY and working as a security guard for McDonalds and while I completely support his need for another job, this one doesn't quite demand the same respect. I don't agree with violence in any form and this was an assault plain and simple and there should be charges filed but I don't see the need to have a headline about a police officer getting punched. Was it to grab the readers attention? Maybe. But maybe the headline should have read "Teen Charged for Allegedly Punching Security Guard at McDonald’s"

Maybe the headline should have said.
"Local want to be thugs hit in the fist by rent a cop."

A police officer is a police officer and if he had been in a parking lot off duty and these morons did what they did they would STILL be charged with assulting a police officer!! I hope they get locked up. I live in Hdg and I do have zero sympathy for these two delinquents.

I dont know what someone told you, but you too dont know the whole story. I too am familar with these boys in this store. Not the first time by far that they cause trouble, curse, carry on and take food they dont pay for. This store was full of families and children and when asked to leave they assaulted a officer that is sercurity probably for this extact reason!!! This is shameful that young adults cannot control thereselves in respectful matter so that the familes in this town can enjoy a dinner without having to worry. Stop making excuses there is no reason good enough to put your hands on someone in a store full of small chilrdren that have most likely been effected from the drama.

. I am positive they contribute nothing to society, and pretty sure the parent is worthless. I probably have been supporting the whole family with your help, welfare, section 8,food stamps, then all the police action .,. The medical expense from the crack overdoses. Then we have all the bastard children. How about the next 50 yrs. we will have to support them in the penal system. Let’s not forget the 10s of 1000s of wasted dollars trying to teach them how to complete a thought, All wasted as you can see they couldn't even order a hamburger without punching someone and getting locked up. These two are the norm not the exception. Then you wonder why business goes over seas’. Did you know OBOMA passed a law that it is illegal to expect an employee to be courteous to customers. I am not kidding. That is really going help the job situation. This is how stupid alot of the American public is. The stupid half of this country doesn't realize I and those like me are the most important citizen in this county, and until they do and remove their head out of their!!!!! You can kiss this county goodbye .These are not the Americans that made this country great they came from Europe. The crud balls today come from everywhere else. Good luck, you’re going to need alot of it. Oh by the way I don't have to hire anyone and if I do it is not because you deserve it or entitled to it but because I want to make more money. Try to pass a law against that. So many of you are so stupid.

I've been to the McD's and the person who was punched wears a shirt that says "POLICE" on it and carries his his service weapon on his belt in a holster. A police officer has police powers 24 hours a day, that is why many businesses hire them in an off duty status. The names of the 2 adults should be published.

Those were grown men that assaulted the off duty officer and I agree with many of the other posts that their names should be published and mostly that they should be punished for their behaviors. McDonalds in Havre de Grace requires a security guard because some thugs do visit this business. The problem is the individuals who do not have respect for others and hopefully they will get some jail time, and community service for their unruly behavior. This is probably their first introduction to a life of incarceration.
