Target is bringing the Aberdeen community together next month.

The local store is hosting National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. on August 7. The nationwide event is held the first Tuesday in August.

"The ultimate goal is to increase the partnership between the community and public safety," said Target's Stephanie Pettigen, who is coordinating the event in Aberdeen. 

Local law enforcement will participate in the event, which will feature informative displays and interactive activities.

Target stores in the Bel Air area will also hold events. In Havre de Grace, communities hold block parties.

Pettigen said Aberdeen Target welcomes residents of neighboring communities, but the goal is to forge a better relationship between Aberdeen residents and local authorities. 

This is the 29th year Target has partnered with nationwide National Night Out events.
