Join in with National Night Out.
The nationwide event takes on a local twist in Havre de Grace and Aberdeen on Tuesday.
The Aberdeen Target store will host an event from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring a live DJ, food, drinks, prescription take-back, games, prizes and more. Local law enforcement agencies will be on hand for demonstrations.
See the attached PDF file for more information.
In Havre de Grace, the Ontario-Otsego Positive Action Committee (OPAC) will host its neighborhood get-together from 7 to 9 p.m. The 600 block of Ontario Street will be closed to traffic during the event.
An email from OPAC leaders read: "The original purpose was to spread awareness of ongoing anti-crime efforts in our nation’s cities. However, the OPAC group has expanded this event into a general 'getting to know your neighbors occasion.' Folks are hoping that everybody will turn on their porch lights and meander around their little section of Havre de Grace. Usually, city officials and police officers stop and share concerns and issues."

OPAC Neighbors,
Thanks to all who came out to enjoy the evening on Ontario Street last night at the Neighbors Night Out block party sponsored by the Ontario-Otsego Positive Action Committee. Neighbors had a chance to mingle with one another, as well as with our local police officers and Chief Walter, Mayor Dougherty and Councilmen Glenn, Martin and Craig, who all strolled through. Thanks again to Cheryl Strader and Sarah Fields for their work in putting the evening together. It was a beautiful example of what living in a town like Havre de Grace is all about!

unless we have a dedicated neighborhood watch to watch constantly and consistently neighborhood watch is dead. Neighborhood watch isn't "I heard a strange noise and peek out from my window to see" or being a nosy nancy.
I've never seen individuals band together to patrol the streets as citizens. Hell, I'd even do it myself if I had a few good men and women.
