Route 40 Ramp At MD 715 To Close Next Week

A ramp near Aberdeen Proving Ground is set to close on June 28.

The ramp from eastbound U.S. Route 40 to southbound MD Route 715 in Aberdeen is scheduled to close on June 28.

The ramp will remained closed for about a year, leaving commuters to detour left across U.S. Route 40 West, using a temporary traffic signal, and onto a temporary interchange to MD Route 715, according to a statement from the State Highway Administration.

MD Route 715—or Short Lane—leads to the primary entrance onto Aberdeen Proving Ground.

The closure is part of an ongoing, $17.8 million project to improve the interchange following the BRAC expansion on Aberdeen Proving Ground. The ramp closure will allow for the ramp to be widened to three lanes.

Maryland recently announced $9 million in funding to improve intersections along MD Route 22 in Aberdeen in light of increased BRAC-related traffic in the area.

How on earth can a modification to ONE interchange take A YEAR? Does anybody ever have to answer to the public about schedule? Of course not...

We'll spend most of the next year driving by this TINY stretch of roadway looking over at idle equipment at all hours of the day and night, and on occasion 2 guys holding STOP signs, a few sitting in their trucks on their phones (and one of them likely taking a nap), and 3 guys standing around a ditch watching one guy shoveling dirt.

We want it safe don't we? One more thing if you were the one in the ditch or hole you'd want someone to watch out to make sure no one run you over or that the dirt didn't fall in on you. These workers and city workers get a bum rap. They work harder then most people and it's everything under the sun needing done work in the heat, cold, rain and snow. So come on, pray for their safty and yours and let them do their job.

I agree wholeheartedly with E Dub!!! If you ever have seen workers doing improvements on the Autobahn in Germany, you know what efficiency and hazardous working conditions is!

Maryland requested (and received) BRAC funding for road improvements. BRAC has been complete for almost a year now and was a 5 year process or more. WHAT TOOK SO LONG??? APG repositioned and widened the 715 gate long ago. Those of us who came down from New Jersey lovingly refer to APG as 'Sleepy Hollow', but now we see that this could apply to a much wider audience!

Why isn't there a left turn signal off of rt 7(walmart side) going to APG.? Every day I have to make thatleft hand turn and get ALL the way over to make a right to go to pier one. Cars making right hand turn on 715 don't like letting me over. Scares me everyday.
