POLL: Will You Attend The Carnival This Week?
The Havre de Grace carnival runs through July 1 at Tydings Park.
Many of you have already gone. Others may not go at all.
Regardless, a Havre de Grace tradition is under way.
The week-long independence celebration kicked off Tuesday with the start of the annual carnival at Tydings Park.
The carnival will run through July 1—when Havre de Grace ramps up the party with a parade and fireworks. The carnival runs from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the carnival is open from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Tickets for the carnival are $25 for unlimited rides. Individual ride tickets are available each night.
Coupons for $2 off on Wednesday and Thursdy night are available at the visitor's center, activity center and Frank's Pizza, according to Carolyn Narvell of the Independence Day Committee.

I went to the carnival last night. It wasn’t very crowded and would have been a good deal if anyone purchased the wrist band for the ride all night offer. I thought the food prices were outrageous. The sheets of ride tickets cost $55.00 for 50 tickets. If you went this route you could ride all the adult rides one time based on the required 4 or 5 tickets to ride the ride. The smaller rides for children would cost about 36 tickets to ride every one of them one time. Individual tickets were priced at $1.50. For comparison Hershey Park charges $35.95 for kids 3 to 8, and those over 55. 9 to 54 cost $56.95. King’s Dominion $37.99 and $49.99. Six Flags $56.99 for adults. Group discounts are available at each park.

But that's ignoring transportations costs (gas and tolls) and parking, I don't think you're going to make a strong economic argument against going to the carnival versus and amusement park, maybe not for lower income spectrum or people who just want to take their kids out for fun fairly close by. Especially considering the closest parks are 90 minutes away.
On the other hand, I can't help but think people's attitude for the carnival is largely why we can't even get any amusements around here that aren't recreational sports related or [freaking] gambling.

I was there last night. Nothing new. Walked through and left, spent nothing! Not crowed, at least the 20 or so minutes I was there.

I took my family last night. I have an 8 year old and a 3 year old. My neighbor gave me coupons for $2 off any purchase of a "ride all" wrist band. I bought one for each of my kids at a cost of $46.00. Although the carnival is the same each year, I don't think the kids notice. The rides are clean and plentiful. They had a fantastic time. They rode everything they were big enough to ride at least twice. I steered away from the games and food as this is what really drives the cost of going up. (I couldn't resist just one corn dog for myself though. So selfish!!). All in all the value was there. Three and a half hours of smiles and laughter from my kids was well worth the $46 !! If you are going to try to entertain yourself as an adult and go with out children then you will be let down. This is for the kids as carnivals of this size are supposed to be. Good job Havre de Grace. I met many people from out of town even as far as Connecticut and they all seemed to be pleased.

I have never been drawn to a seedy, carnival atmosphere. I think there are better ideas and options available. I have not attended the carnival in almost eight years.
