The suspected shooter is at Christiana Hospital with self-inflicted injuries that are life-threatening, police said in a statement released Tuesday morning. Police are not identifying the suspect as the investigation is ongoing.
According to initial investigation, police said that the suspect shot a man and woman at a house when a "heated argument escalated to the point the suspect displayed an unidentified firearm and shot both victims."
Authorities were called to the 200 block of Craigstown Road in Port Deposit at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday for a report of shots fired at a residence, according to the statement.
When they arrived, troopers found Eileen L. Roland, 56, of the 2400 block of Philadelphia Road in Edgewood, on the front porch with a gunshot wound to her upper torso, police said.
She was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Upon continuing into the house, troopers found homeowner Timothy S. Hammons, 48, on the floor unresponsive, also with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Police said that Hammons was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that the suspect left the scene before authorities arrived but was located close by.
Half a mile away, Maryland State Police had set up a crime scene in the rear of the parking lot at Jumbo Jimmy's Crab Shack Monday evening. Police said that a shooting had occurred on the 1000 block of Bainbridge Road in the area of the white GMC truck that was cordoned off with police tape.
According to the official statement, the suspect shot himself and was flown to Christiana Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police are still looking for a motive in the shootings. Anyone with information or who witnessed the event may call the North East Barrack at 410-996-7800. Police said calls will remain confidential.
