Police: Death Of 9-Month-Old Deemed Suspicious

The Harford County Sheriff's Office is investigating the infant's death.

Detectives with the Harford County Sheriff's Office are investigating after a 9-month-old went into cardiac arrest and died Tuesday. The death is being called suspicious by police.

Around 1:33 p.m. deputies were called to a home in the 900 block of Scannell Court in Joppa to handle a report of a child in cardiac arrest, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

When deputies arrived, paramedics with the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company were treating the 9-month-old and the 19-year-old mother, the release states.

Both mother and child were taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air for treatment where child was pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m.

The mother, whose name has not been released, was listed in critical condition Tuesday evening after suffering from a non-disclosed medical issue, police say.

Detectives are interviewing family members to find out what happened.
