Police Arrest Man Suspected in 7 Armed Robberies
Maryland State Police have arrested a man suspected of seven armed robberies including one in Parkville and one in Overlea.
Following a traffic stop of a 2008 silver Chevrolet Impala on Pulaski Highway Thursday night, police arrested a man suspected of committing a string of armed robberies in the past week.
In a press release, Maryland State Police said that they arrested Michael Malpass, 25, of the 1500 block of West Old Philadelphia Road in Charlestown. Malpass has been charged in connection with the armed robbery of an Exxon gas station at the Maryland House rest stop on I-95 near Aberdeen.
Police officials said they are also investigating Malpass in connection with six other armed robberies in Harford, Cecil and Baltimore Counties, including two in Parkville and Overlea.
Police believe that Malpass may be connected to:
- The Nov. 9 armed robbery at an Exxon gas station located at the Maryland House rest stop near Aberdeen.
- The Nov. 11 armed robbery at a Shell gas station on Middleton Road in Aberdeen.
- The Nov. 13 armed robbery at a Royal Farms store on Route 40 near Perryville.
- The Nov. 14 armed robbery of a 7-Eleven store on Belair Road in Fullerton.
- The Nov. 15 armed robbery of a Rite Aid store on Pulaski Highway in Havre de Grace.
- The Nov. 17 armed robbery of a Walgreens store on Harford Road in Parkville.
The Chevrolet Impala Malpass was driving when he was arrested was identified as the getaway vehicle in the reported robberies, police said. Police said evidence recovered by investigators from Malpass' Charlestown residence appears to link him to the string of robberies.
The investigation into the robberies is continuing.
Malpass was in the custody of Maryland State Police JFK Highway Barrack investigators after the 7 p.m. arrest on Thursday, awaiting an initial appearance before District Court commissioner for armed robbery, assault and theft charges. Charges from other jurisdictions are pending, police said.
