While many of the Paresi Design Studio's 1997 study call for major waterfront projects in Havre de Grace, some are more subtle, cost-effective measures to improve the downtown area.

Two of those measures have been acted upon by the City of Havre de Grace.

The Paresi Study, called for streetscape improvements and facade upgrades to downtown storefronts. Both projects are well underway.

This is the third post in a series of articles refreshing the visions of the Paresi Design Studio's "Urban Design and Waterfront Study," which was completed in February 1997.

Monday, Patch unveiled some plans for gateways into downtown Havre de Grace. Tuesday, it was a glimpse at the immediate and long-term plans in the study.

Havre de Grace has utilized the Havre de Grace Main Street organization to help facilitate the facade improvement program. It has been deemed successful by business owners and elected officials.

Recently, the city announced a plan to launch an interior improvement loan plan for downtown businesses.

Streetscape projects have been ongoing in recent years. In late 2010, the city unveiled new crosswalks and a city seal in the intersection at Rochambeau Plaza—where St. John, Washington and Green streets meet.

Last fall, the city completed a streetscape project along St. John Street, improving the appearance of the sidewalk areas.

The study takes things a step further under the idea of streetscapes, calling for a "town green" across from Rochambeau Plaza.
