Osman To Be Inducted in HCPS Hall of Fame
Havre de Grace's Don Osman will be inducted into Harford's Educator Hall of Fame.
The honors keep coming for Don Osman.
The road to the teacher's parking lot at Havre de Grace High School was named for him in the spring.
He presented diplomas to Havre de Grace's Class of 2011.
He was named one of Havre de Grace Patch's People of the Year on Christmas Day.
Now, the former Havre de Grace High School English teacher is headed to the Harford County Public Schools Educator Hall of Fame.
Here's the info from Harford County Public Schools:
During the Board of Education meeting on Monday, January 23, 2012, Donald R. Osman will be inducted into the HCPS Educator Hall of Fame for his 40-year tenure with HCPS as a dedicated teacher. The induction ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the A. A. Roberty Building. In addition, the ceremony and Board meeting will be aired via live stream on the school system website at www.hcps.org. The live stream link can be found in the Board box in the lower right-hand corner of the homepage, hcps.org.
Osman stepped down from the Board of Education in June, electing not to run for another term after serving on the board since 2009.
Osman taught at Havre de Grace for more than 30 years and continues to serve in an advisory role with the student service organization S.M.I.L.E.S.—which stands for Service Makes Individual Lives Extra Special—that he founded in Havre de Grace.

One of the best educators and human beings that I have ever been fortunate enough to meet. I can only hope that I will have even a fraction of his impact on my students.

A standing room only turn out for the induction ceremony last night. It is by far the biggest turn out ever for a Harford County Public Schools Hall of Fame Ceremony. Mr. Osman received numerous standing ovations from those in attendance. It is indicative of the impact Don Osman has had not only on the Harford County Public Schools, but the Havre de Grace community as well. His uncommon dedication and unique ability to connect with children and young adults speaks volumes about the man who continues to serve as an inspiration to others. I was so fortunate to have him as a teacher, but more importantly, to be able to call him a very dear and close friend. He is truly one of the very, very best.
