New Bus Route Links Harford and Cecil Counties

Route No. 7, also known as the "Teal" line, will offer nine round trips on stops between Aberdeen and Perryville.

Officials from Harford County, Cecil County and the state unveiled a bus route that will connect commuters between Harford and Cecil Counties.

Route No. 7, also known as the "Teal" line, will offer nine round trips connecting Aberdeen and Perryville on weekdays except for holidays. There is no weekend service. There are 17 scheduled stops nothbound from Aberdeen to Perryville, and 12 scheduled stops southbound from Perryville to Aberdeen

"I think what this partnership does is it brings two counties even closer together. It brings two towns closer together, and it brings us as people closer together," said James Mullin, president of the Cecil County Board of Commissioners. "I learned a lot through the toll debate here how much people in the city of Havre de Grace and Perryville depend on each other economically."

Stops that could be the most useful to commuters are Harford Memorial Hospital, Aberdeen train station, Perryville train station and Hollywood Casino. Bus service runs from 6 a.m. to 6:17 p.m.

The Teal line is expected to start running before Feb. 15.

This is great! Community transportation is one of the ways to cut down on fuel consumption and air pollution. The trick now is how to convince people that it's 'cool' to take the bus. On Annamarie Island on the west coast of florida they have a similar set-up that runs the length of the island. The locals and the tourists use the bus all the time because it's 'cool'. You almost never see a 'local' driving their car when they can take the bus. The people are friendly and welcoming... the island bus is the center of local information (the P.C. term for gossip) and the drivers know all the cool spots to visit.
The BUS..... it's not for just poor people anymore :-)
Now, if we can just get the Hatem Bridge to handle bicycles conveniently......

The buses pictured have bike racks. We'll probably pick up the slack with our bridge-crossing service for weekend long-distance cyclists but weekday buses with racks will be a great start. It only takes about 45-seconds to load or unload a bike. -Walt

This will certainly help Veterans get to and from Perry Point VA. We've been waiting for this a long time. Thanks to those that made it possible.
