Revenue Dips at Maryland Casinos in January

Despite the first full month of 24-hour gambling, revenues declined slightly at the state's casinos.

Casino revenue across Maryland dropped by about $900,000, as the state’s three casinos brought in $44.3 million combined.

Hollywood Casino in Perryville pulled in $5,455,111 in January, down from $5,956,140 in December.

Revenue at Maryland Live! was essentially flat between December and January; the casino pulled in $35,943,756.19, a decline of just under $100,000 from December.

The Casino at Oceans Downs collected $2,928,919.55, down from $3,335,925.98 in December.

In sum, Maryland casino revenue generated $14.6 million for operators; the rest goes to the state’s Education Trust Fund, local impact grants, and the horse racing industry.

The breakdown for January was as follows:

  • $14.6 million to casinos
  • $21.8 million to the Education Trust Fund
  • $3.1 million to purses at racetracks
  • $2.4 million to local impact grants
  • $775,736 to racetrack renewal
  • $2 million to the Maryland Lottery
  • $1.5 million to small, minority and women-owned businesses.

Maryland Live! began operating round-the-clock at the end of December. Hollywood Casino in Perryville started 24-hour operations on the weekends in January. Casinos in Maryland plan to introduce live table games later this year.

I completely understand the loss of revenue at Perryville. They take your money, but they don't pay out like they did when they first opened. They can't seen to figure out that 1+1 equals 2!!!!
