The Joppa man accused of killing his housemate and eating part of the dead man's heart and brains was this week ruled incompetent to stand trial—at least for now.

Alexander Kinyua, 21, of the in the 500 block of Terrapin Terrace pleaded not criminally responsible to charges of first-degree murder and use of a dangerous weapon in connection with the May slaying of Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie.

Court records show Harford County State's Attorney Joe Cassilly submitted a letter to the court Monday stating his office reviewed a report from Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, a maximum security psychiatric facility, and agreed based on the report that Kinyua is currently incompetent to stand trial.

Cassilly consented to the ruling without a hearing based on the report, according to court records.

According to charging documents, Kinyua—a former Morgan State University student—allegedly told detectives that he killed Agyei-Kodie, cut him up with a knife then ate part of the dead man's heart and brain before hiding body parts in his basement.

The ruling is not a final adjudication of the case, according to The Baltimore Sun, that first reported the story.

The ruling instead means Kinyua will be treated until he is found competent to "contribute to his defense," according to The Sun's story.
