UPDATED: Council President's Son Dies In Farm Accident

Benjamin Boniface, 20, died in an accident on the Boniface family's farm Monday morning.

UPDATED (1:05 p.m.)—The son of Harford County Council President Billy Boniface died in an early morning vehicle accident Monday on the family's farm in Darlington.

A prelimintary investigation revealed Benjamin Boniface, 20, died when the 1994 Ford pick-up truck he was driving struck a series of fence posts along a private road on Bonita Farm in the 3700 block of Harmony Church Road, according to a statement from the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Parts of the fence broke through the windshield of the truck, injuring Boniface, according to an emailed statement from sheriff's office spokesperson Monica Worrell.

Deputies believe the driver lost control of the vehicle heading into a curve in the roadway, Worrell said. The vehicle was last heard around 1:30 a.m., according to a statement from Worrell.

The accident was discovered at 4:15 a.m. by a night watchman, who then alerted Billy Boniface. The men pulled the younger Boniface from the vehicle before performing CPR on him, Worrell said.

Ben Boniface was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:58 a.m. Monday, Worrell said.

Worrell told Patch that a full incident report was not immediately available at 11:30 a.m., but that it was her understanding that Benjamin Boniface was the only individual in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

According to his Facebook profile, Benjamin Boniface was a 2010 graduate of John Carroll School.

Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association, told Patch in an initial report shortly after 7 a.m. that the Level Volunteer Fire Company also responded to the scene just before 5 a.m. Monday.

Neighbors told Patch via email that they heard rescue vehicles driving back to the farm at 5 a.m. via the access road at Harmony Church Road.

My daughter graduated with Ben. One of my specific memories of Ben was when I pulled up to JC one day to unload items for a school function. Out of all the kids standing out front, Ben was the one to come running over to my car insisting on helping me. He was such a gentleman and will be missed very much by his JC family. We send blessings to your family.

I hate to be a turd. I really do And I feel for this person's family and all his friends. It’s a tragic accident. But this is for all u Patch turds I been watching that get on here and bash and bash and bash. If this kid was from Edgewood the below comments/ questions would have been stated.

1) what was he doing out at 1:30?
2) He must have been drinking or high
3) He must have been driving like a fool!
4) I got on case search a checked his record and blah blah blah

Once again. I am sorry for the loss. May he rest in peace. I am just surprised that……….nope……..actually I’m not.

What you're missing here is 1) This is the son of a highly respected and well know public servant and businessman, 2) This entire family has worked, prospered and been upstanding citizens in this county for literally decades; nearly a century, 3) There's no evidence he was high, speeding or wreckless, 4) He was on a private road with nobody else around so nobody else was endangered...to the number 5)...yes you are a number 2.

Re: Karl, you got all high and mighty about texting when there was an accident on 95 here:

but you didn't get up on your soapbox this time? Whether or not you knew the person should have no effect on how you bash them in a public space like this. Why don't you take this moment to reflect. A young man has died and it was a great loss and for once, you kept your mouth shut and didn't victim blame/"ask questions." Why don't you continue that trend next time there is an accident and someone who you don't know dies.

Oh, and here's another example of you victim blaming someone you didn't know.

Why do you deny your compassion and respect to people you don't know and only reserve it for the few you hold in high regard?

maybe I will do that. It is wonderful to see compassion after tragedies like this, but it is utterly disgusting to see the lack of compassion that some people have when it is someone they don't know.

Whip - someone tried to hijack this thread of mostly sincere thoughts and prayers for a well known and respected family. This someone specifically used the location of "edgewood" to try to make a racial issue. Any other comments about texting and running red lights are so removed from that it's like night and day. You and your equally callous friend are welcome to create your own blog and attach anything I've ever said that upsets you. This location however in inappropriate.
