Jimmy Shane Wins Columbia Cup

Havre de Grace native Jimmy Shane won his first career unlimited boat race Sunday.

Havre de Grace native Jimmy Shane picked up his first win as a full-time Unlimited Hydroplane driver Sunday.

In just his third race, according to his mother, Shane won the Lamb-Wesson Columbia Cup in Tri-Cities Water Follies in Kennewick, WA Sunday. He edged J. Michael Kelly by less than a boat length, according to kvewtv.com.

Shane, a 2003 Havre de Grace High School grad, said the win was "The fulfillment of a childhood dream," according to H1Unlimited.com

Shane—son of Robin and Stu Shane and younger brother of Kelly Shane—has made a career of the family's passion. The family owns Shane Sheet Metal on Webb Lane.

Shane, 26, in his first season in the Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Series, driving for Graham Trucking.

The Shanes have been at the top of the Powerboat Racing sport for years. Regularly the family travels to Canada and out West in pursuit of victory. Jimmy's parents have been bringing Championships home to Webb Lane for Decades. Jimmy and Kelly have been brought up on the racing circuit. The dedication that the family has for the sport destined Jimmy for victory. I am thrilled to see that Jimmy has won his first of what will be many top awards. He earned it.

Yep, Jimmy is a great hydro-plane driver and a real competitor but he's also a true gentleman. Congratulations to Jimmy but a sincere 'well done" to Stu and Robin for being such great parents and role models to their kids.
