I'll start: I'm intrigued by both.

As an alum, former coach and future parent of HHS students, I have to say I'm most excited about the high school.

However, I realize the hospital brings a lot of opportunity to the city—and not just in the traditional form of a new hospital. The proposed retail, offices and hotel are really exciting.

Of the two I like the hospital better. I don't have any children and will most likly need the services of the hospital before I need a new school. The Harford County Board of Education was only the first hurdle to get past. Now the State has to agree to fund the project. $70 million is a big nut for the taxpayers to crack.

It's nearly a toss-up, but I would say the hospital is a bit more important; here's why: Education can happen in any setting. There is little evidence that new facilities (without advancement in the program) actually improve learning or advance test scores. However, there is not doubt that advanced medical facilities promote better health care. So, for "my money", the hospital is most important. I encourage the Board of Education to provide HdG with advanced programs, with or without the facilities.

As a student I feel the new school is more important. The building we are in right now is not very good. The hallways are too small, classrooms are too small, also having to walk across the street to go to gym or band in the middle of winter isn't the best either. Plus with the AC that seems to always break at the end of the school year doesn't help either.

Mr Max - if it helps at all, the new hospital is intended to have significantly fewer beds, but much better technology and facilities to accomodate modern medicine. Portable classrooms, while unattractive, do not cheapen the education taking place inside.
