Winter storm Nemo may be pounding the New York City area with 30 inches of snow, but Harford County residents are in for much milder winter weather.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for central Maryland, the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, northern Virginia and D.C. The outlook warns of a possible light wintry mix and freezing rain.
Rain that may be mixed with snow and sleet is expected to fall Thursday night, and will turn to all rain after 4 a.m. Friday, according to the weather agency. Temperatures are predicted to range from a low around 34 to a high near 39.
A light layer of ice from freezing rain is possible, especially near the Mason-Dixon line, the National Weather Service warns.
Rain is anticipated to continue until around 4 p.m. Friday, with a chance of rain and snow showers before 7 p.m. and snow between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., the agency forecasts. Temperatures range from a high near 47 to a low around 32.
Sunny, clear skies are expected to return in time for the weekend, though temperatures remain brisk.

We all know Harco will have school scheduled to be cancelled by 5 pm tonight - tomorrow is Friday afterall.....another day off for the kids & a long weekend for the teachers

I wish that were true! There have been many a morning I wished for even a 2 hour delay because of weather and/or road conditions to no avail. "Harco" as you put it deems education their top priority and without attendance the students can't receive it. After the last few weeks of foggy and snowy mornings it was tedious at best getting the students to school safely. Especially with the people driving with no headlights on, speeding, cutting me off, fishtailing either not knowing how or just afraid of driving in the elements.

@ artfxus, not what I was saying at all. I was refering to the implied comment that Harford County closes at the mear thought of bad weather. I am sorry you missed the inflection in my voice. I was supporting Harford county for not looking for any excuse to get a day off! @ Hollee, with out you guys I couldn't do my job! I appreciate you all! For the record last year even Harford county was the ONLY County that I know of, that didn't apply for the inclement weather waiver and had it's students "make-up" the days missed. Education!

Another inconveniencing day for many parents in the county, but don't worry, "its for the children." I guess Harford County doesn't even trust it's own bus drivers to safely drive on a slushed up salted roads.

Well if school is on or off lets hear it for the staff that HAS to come in and make sure sidewalks are clear parking lots r clear,and that the school is prepared for the next day of education:) If weather conditions and road conditions are poor PLEASE be safe,drive safe or just stay off the roads if you can :)

Some will complain that they're too quick to close schools and some will complain they don't do so enough. If I were the one making the call I'd err on the side of safety.

I would rather "Harco" as you put it be safe then sorry!! And who the hell cares if the teachers have a 3 day weekend?? I am sure if you have a job that if bad weather ment you had off an extra day over the weekend you would'nt be posting stupid comments!!

Thank You SARAH JAYNE.... I for one hope that "HARCO" makes sound decisions with safety in mind..AND..When custodial staff has to go in for removal we try and make it as fun as possible its all a state of mind:)

Please keep in mind that most of us are not government employees and do not have off for inclement weather yet are forced to find child care in the event of a school closing. Hard to justify our added expense when there is just a dusting on the road....just sayin'

The business world could take a clue from the schools. If it's not safe for buses full of children, it's probably not safe enough to risk making those children orphans.

With the multi type of land and roads Harford Co has it is a tough decision to close you may be driving around in the southern part of county Bel Air, Edgewood, etc... but go up into the Northern section of Co (our own little Hereferd Zone) and the slicky roads are not fully treated etc... and they need to wait for the "solar plow" and temps to come. Our county is growing quick and maybe this idea of zones needs to be revisited. IMHO. Be safe if you don't need to be on the road (shopping ,getting to a sale, going to lunch, going to a movie, mall or store cause you kids are Bored with TV and 1000 video games) STAY HOME if you need to be (work, life and death, child care) then just be smart
