Havre de Grace Mardi Gras Celebration Jazzes Up Winter in the City

The parade on Bourbon Street is set for Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Next Tuesday, Havre de Grace is taking a cue from the Big Easy and hosting its own Mardi Gras parade.

The sixth annual event is supported by the Havre de Grace Historic Preservation Committee and includes floats, costumed characters and music.

“As the tourist season slows, we felt the need to wake up our community, think local and celebrate small business," said Brigitte Peters, City of Havre de Grace Marketing and Tourism Manager.

The Havre de Grace Mardi Gras parade will be at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 12. With the Havre de Grace Jazz Band leading the way, floats representing local artists and businesses will travel from Bourbon Street to Washington Street, concluding on Saint John Street.

"This year, there is more to celebrate this Fat Tuesday with the recent Ravens Super Bowl win—excitement will be at an all time high," Peters added, referencing the Baltimore Ravens' championship victory Feb. 3 in New Orleans.

After the Mardi Gras parade in Havre de Grace, Peters said, restaurants and bars will continue the party with live music and specials.

Havre de Grace is a gem by the Chesapeake Bay - lots of wonderful eateries - Tidewater Grille, MacGregor's - BEST ever CRAB pretzel, Laurapins, Rodgers House tavern - GREAT Crab Cakes - Goll's Bakery - yummy - to name a few; stores like Just for Fun - a true blast from the past on Franklin Street along with BallMore Sports - a must go to for Ravens gear - too much to mention good and a must go to town for lots to do and see! Buy local and support small historic towns like HDG - I Live in FL but go to MD often and Havre de Grace is always on my agenda!

The parade increases every year and it is so much fun to see your friends and neighbors strutting down Bourbon Street as they head downtown. Great job Brigitte Peters and associates. Laissez les bons temps rouler! (Let the good times roll!)
