UPDATED: Hurricane-Related Cancellations, Sale in Havre de Grace

Hurricane Sandy impacts weekend activities in the city on the Chesapeake.

With Hurricane Sandy nearing Maryland, Harford County is urging businesses to get ready. Gale-force winds are anticipated Sunday, leading to "significant tree damage," according to the National Weather Service.

Hurricane Sandy will approach the mid-Atlantic Monday night, according to a National Weather Service advisory issued at 2 a.m. Sunday. A high wind watch is in effect Sunday night through Tuesday in Harford County and much of Maryland.

“With high winds, driving rain and possible localized flooding, business operations may be jeopardized as a result of this storm," said Harford County Executive Craig, who declared a countywide state of emergency.

“Our business community...should take immediate steps to prepare for the potential onslaught of Hurricane Sandy," Craig said.

In Havre de Grace, the following organizations have cancelled activities.

One business is seizing the opportunity, through a "hurricane sale."

The Halloween parade in Havre de Grace was still on for Tuesday, Oct. 30. If it rains, the parade will be at Havre de Grace High School at 6:30 p.m.
