Havre de Grace Crime: 'Grandma Scheme,' Arrests & More

The following information was supplied by the Havre de Grace Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

Pulaski Highway, 900 block, June 14, 12:04 a.m. A burglary was reported at the Burger King, where the drive-through window appeared to be pried open. Upon investigation, no items had been removed from the establishment. Police have no suspects and the investigation is ongoing.

Erie Street, 700 block, 7:41 p.m. on June 13. Robert Carl Armstrong, 24, of the 800 block of Erie Street was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Police had responded to a medical emergency, and Armstrong, who was unrelated to the call, began screaming and challenging officers to a fight. He began cursing at officers and trying to fight others in the area.

Green Street, 700 block, 10:31 a,m. on June 13. A woman reported phone misuse. A male called and referred to the woman as “grandma,” saying he needed $2,000 to return from St. Thomas. The victim declined, and the suspect said he would take $950, and was willing to take a credit card. Police told the victim if the individual called again to report it to police.

Congress Avenue, 500 block, 9 a.m. on June 13. A case of identity theft was reported. A victim said Timberland boots valued at $136 were being sold via eBay. The victim said the suspect reportedly said the items should have been billed to victim. Police have no suspects.

Garfield Road, 800 block, 12:21 a.m. on June 13. Approximately $1,000 in currency and cell phones were reportedly stolen from a residence. The victims also observed items spread about outside the home, including a laptop and a PlayStation.

Revolution Street, 900 block, 1:45 a.m. on June 12. Saheed Amerr Council, 22, of the 3000 block of Moon Court in Fort Meade was arrested on a warrant from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office for failure to pay child support.

North Stokes Street, 500 block, 10:31 p.m. on June 11. Unknown individuals attacked a victim before fleeing the scene. The victim had signs of alcohol impairment and declined medical treatment at the scene. Police have no suspects and the investigation is ongoing.

South Stokes Street, 400 block, 10:48 a.m. on June 10. Michael Keith Riggins, 55, of the 400 block of South Stokes Street was arrested on a warrant from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear.

North Washington Street, 200 block, 11:54 p.m. on June 9. Galvez Jifez Sheppard, 33, of the 100 block of Weber Street was arrested on a warrant through the Harford County Sheriff’s Office for violation of probation.

Superior Street, 1200 block, 1:02 a.m. on June 9. John Charles Neary, 47, of the 300 block of Goldeneye Court was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Green Street, 600 block, 4:55 p.m. on June 8. The cast iron ends to a bench were reported as stolen from a yard. The victim said they were repainting the bench when the ends were left to dry. Three hours later, the items were missing. Police have no suspects.

Lafayette Street, 800 block, 2:45 a.m. on June 8. Garfield Smith, 20, of the 800 block of Lafayette Street, was arrested and charged with assault. Police responded to a report of an argument between a man and woman and observed minor injuries to the victim.

Erie Street, 900 block, 11:34 a.m. on June 7. Three individuals were arrested during a routine traffic stop.

  • Michele Sue Taylor, 57, of the 200 block of Fletchwood Road in Elkton was arrested on a warrant through Cecil County for burglary and a warrant through Maryland state police.
  • Luke Davis, whose age and address were not available, was arrested on a warrant for second-degree burglary from an unknown agency.
  • Sharon Elizabeth Battersby, 37, of the 500 block of Biddle Street in Chesapeake City was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

I have a suggestion for the crime section here -- can each of the incident descriptions be numbered to correspond to the number of the map? This would make understanding the information a little easier.

Lauren — Good idea. The numbers in the map correspond in numerical order with the items in descending order in the list. I'll make a note of that in future posts to clarify. Thanks for reading and for the feedback.
