Harford County Sheriff's Office Identifies Fallen Deputy

The Harford County Sheriff's Office has lost two deputies in the past week.

UPDATED (3:39 p.m.)—The Harford County Sheriff's Office has identified the second deputy to have died in the past week.

Sgt. Ian Loughran, 43, unknowingly suffered heart attack symptoms during services for Cpl. Charles Licato Wednesday and died early Thursday morning at his home, the sheriff's office said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

Patch first reported the death of a second deputy Thursday morning.

In the news release, Harford County Sheriff Jesse Bane said: "Yesterday I spoke of a new star in the heavens when speaking of Charles Licato, today it seems a second star now joins him."

Loughran was a 16-year veteran of the department. Most recently, he was assigned to the Police Services Bureau, Patrol Division in the Northern Precinct.

He is survived by a wife and one child, the Sheriff's Office said.

It's the fourth law enforcement death in a week in Harford County.

Harford County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Charles Licato died in an accident while at the end of his shift early in the morning on Sept. 6.

Aberdeen police OFC Charles Armetta died in an off-duty accident in Baltimore early on Sept. 8.

Also, Ronald Petty, a former member of both the Maryland State Police and Harford County Sheriff's Office, died Sept. 9 after battling an illness, accoring to McComas Funeral Home.

Man it is scary that he was so young and didn't even know he was having a heart attack. I think most of us at that age would think it was just something we ate etc. Maybe his death won't be in vain and more people will get screened for heart conditions because of it. I know my next doctor visit will have me asking more questions and getting screened. May you rest in peace Cpl. Licato.
