Harford County Moviegoers May See Strict Costume Restrictions
In the wake of a shooting in Aurora, CO, on opening night of "The Dark Night Rises," Regal has imposed more strict guidelines on clothing.
In the wake of a deadly shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, CO, Harford County law enforcement and Regal Entertainment staff are aware and prepared.
“We have an awareness of the incident and rest assured, appropriate planning is in place," Monica Worrell, public information officer with the Harford County Sheriff's Office, said Friday.
During a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," a masked gunman went into an Aurora, CO, movie theater, tossed canisters of gas and opened fire, according to a Los Angeles Times story.
A dozen people were killed and more than 50 people were injured in the shooting, the story states.
Locally, it was a quiet night at the movies. Worrell said Friday there were no incidents reported at either Regal Cinemas or Flagship Cinemas—Harford County's only two movie theaters—Thursday night into Friday.
She added that deputies were in the area conducting traffic enforcement.
Neither Worrell nor Regal staff would comment on what kind of safety measures are in place. However, both assure the public they are prepared for the worst.
"Moviegoers should expect stricter controls over character attire and accessories at our theatres," wrote Russ Nunley, Vice President Marketing & Communications for Regal, in an email to Patch. "Details regarding our security measures are not discussed publicly for obvious reasons."

The time to overreact is now! Let's melt all guns down too, and put all law abiding citizens at risk.

I see no reasoon for people to have to wear costumes to watch a movie in a dark theater. I also think there should not be any large backpacks/purses allowed. All anyone needs in the theatre is a small wallet for their money/ID. Even cell phones are not allowed and there is no reason all that stuff can't be left in your car or not brought to theatre at all with you. I hope the theatres take a hard look at changing their rules about what is allowed to be brought in. Yes it is a shame we have to take these measures, but unfortunately it is the world we live in right now. Safety od people has to e tour first concern and this is a very simple thing to monitor as patrons enter the theatre.

I guess you missed the fact that the guy didn't take any weapons in with him. He retrieved them from where he had stashed them outside a fire exit. Maybe now you'll propose welding all fire exit doors shut? I see no reason for us to overreact and prohibit others from harmless fun because of the actions of one deranged individual. All of the rules and regulations you can think of won't deter one determined individual.

Everything you said here would have solved nothing that happened the other day. People dress up to have fun and to try and out do other fans. Not for me, mind you, but let them have their fun. If you are crazy enough to show up for the movie 4 hours early, you are there to have a good time.
Want to make sure you are safe, the movie theaters should change the rule about not bringing in concealed weapons. Next time someone starts to shoot, may there be someone with a cool head and a fine weapon to take the shooter out.

Susan, maybe we should ban Batman? Those movies are pretty violent. Well at least they didn't show nudity. We all know that causes problems.
Hey... let's ban midnight movies! Every tragedy is just another opportunity to remove another American Freedom. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

OHC, a truly salient point. Just one or two people returning fire might have saved lives.

Care to cite some of those statistics figment? The statistics in Florida after easing concealed carry showed a reduction in violent crime. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry_in_the_United_States

That Florida study was debunked years ago. In reality it was a slight reduction that bounced right back up. Concealed carry doesn't have any effect on crime one way or the other.

It may not have a direct effect on crime in an overall statistic, but it would ensure that I would not be fighting negative odds if I were ever in an situation that threatened my health or life. Also, if there is no impact positive or negative, then let's stop infringing on everyone's rights and allow the individual to decide whether they need to carry or not.

The actual problem with the Florida study is that most business made it against their company policy (Like malls, theaters and restaurants) to bring weapons in. Made it hard for people to legally carry more than the first few months. So the law was diminished to be of any help in situations like Colorado.
It is almost sad how scared many people are of guns, which kill way less people than cars. I can only think it is because they are not around them, taught the proper handling and care of them and respect for them. Maybe we should introduce a required 2nd Amendment Class in all high schools in Harford County. Make it a letter sport. Teach respect and training.

The Florida study hasn't been debunked per se but does leave the issue open. Other studies do so as well. Given that there is no real obvious conclusion one way or another I'd prefer to have to the option to carry...

What...and empower the law abiding citizen by allowing them to carry a tool that levels the playing field. The dems won't have any of that.

More people have been murdered in Chicago this month, even with some of the most restictive gun laws in the country. Obama has said nothing of the 274 murders in his hood this year.
