PATCH FEATURE OF THE DAY

Event listings are a great way to publicize something happening at your business or with your organization. However, Havre de Grace Patch operates with an "NPR"-style stance: no mentions of costs, discounts, or percentage off, please. We consider such items advertising. Our rates are great, and Ad Manager Jeff Stintz can be reached via e-mail at jeff.stintz@patch.com.

About this column: Havre de Grace Patch provides you with the jolt of information to accompany your morning cup of coffee. The brief hits of things that are important: weather, tides, news recaps, events, and anything else we think you might find necessary to kick-start your day.

As one who participated in the Mardi Gras parade and festivities I think it is safe to say that everyone had a wonderful time. This event, adding to the already numerous events this fine city puts on every year, is a testament to the pride this community has in itself. There really is no place like it in the area. I spoke with a couple from Edgewood, chased from their home in New Orleans after Katrina, who attended the event last night. They spoke of how much downtown HdG reminded them of the French Quarter with a European flair. That is a special comment coming from an outsider visiting our city and should be taken not only as compliment but as a wake-up call to the importance of ensuring the preservation of our downtown architecture and the continued effort to promote economic development centered around that goal.
A special thanks goes out to the organizers of this years parade, Ron Browning and Brigitte Peters and all who took the time to participate in colorful Havre de Grace style!
