Gunshots Strike 2 Vehicles on South Stokes Street
Police say there are no injuries and no suspects from Dec. 14 incident.
Havre de Grace police say they are conducting a "very active investigation" into the shooting of two parked vehicles on South Stokes Street last Friday.
Police spokesman Jeff Gilpin said officers responded to a report of gunshots fired near South Stokes and Bourbon streets in Havre de Grace at 7:38 p.m. on Friday.
Witnesses reported hearing three to six gunshots and seeing two males running from the scene, one wearing a yellow sweatshirt, said police.
Nobody was injured and there are no suspects in the incident, Gilpin said.
“Detectives are working very hard to identify the suspects,” Gilpin said on Wednesday.
While canvassing the area on Friday, officers found a damaged vehicle parked on South Stokes Street, police said.
The owner of a second vehicle reported discovering a bullet hole through the windshield and driver’s side at 11:07 a.m. on Saturday; the vehicle was parked on the 200 block of South Stokes Street.
Police believe the damage to the second vehicle occurred at the same time as the first, Gilpin said, but was not seen until daylight hours. He said one of the vehicles was a Toyota Camry.
No bullets were recovered, according to Gilpin, because when they strike hard surfaces, they fragment and ricochet. Officials said they have not yet determined a motive or the type of gun involved in the shooting.
The activity on South Stokes Street was an isolated incident, according to police.
“This is an unusual type of event for our city and we also believe that this is an isolated event,” Gilpin told Patch. "Our patrol operations in the area are remaining the same."
Gilpin added that officers were being cautious.
“Our officers do have an increased awareness due to the fact that there is a known firearm out there that could potentially hurt them our others,” he said.
