Friday Concert To Benefit Karen Green
The HdG Drama Guild and Lewis Lane Singers will perform in the benefit event.
Like most things people try to keep from her, Karen Green found out.
After weeks of planning by some of her closest friends, Green learned recently of a planned benefit concert in her honor—so Patch isn't letting the cat out of the bag.
Green—who is battling kidney issues—will be the beneficiary of a fundraising event set for Friday evening at the Havre de Grace Community Center at 100 Laraget Lane.
It will be some of the programs she helped to create and grow that are organizing the evening.
"She has helped to establish programs for youth, adults, special needs individuals and seniors throughout the county over her many years of continuous service and dedication to the citizens of Harford County," an email about the event said.
It continued: "We all know her and we all love her. Now is the time for friends, family, neighbors, colleagues and associates to rally around a very important person in our lives."
The benefit is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. on Friday and will include a buffet dinner, dinner theater presentation from the HdG Drama Guild, and a concert by the Lewis Lane Singers.
Tickets are $25 per person and available online, at the Havre de Grace Activity Center or at the Havre de Grace Visitor's Center.
The buffet will be catered by Bill Bateman's Bistro and includes lasagna, hot turkey, taco bar, mashed potatoes, pasta salad, garden salad, cole slaw and rolls, as well as drinks.
The email stated: "Proceeds and all donations from the event will go directly to Karen to help cover her rising medical costs. Come out to support a wonderful friend, an awesome colleague and terrific human being and enjoy dinner and a show."

Tom - we were, but the cat got out via a slip from a family member a couple weeks ago. Eh, it's ok - it was being planned for quite some time so we did good!! After all, who doesn't seem to know her? So it was hard to keep quiet for too long ;)

Just some quick updates:
It was suppose to be a concert and dinner show. Unfortunately the group that planned to sing will not be prepared. However, that is fine. Karen has a deep love for the theater stretching back many years.
Seating starts at 6:15, dinner at 6:30 and the show at 7.
Tickets sales will end on Wednesday at noon as we need a head count for Batemans. We have seating for 350-400 folks and there are plenty of tickets still available for purchase.

Two years ago, I found out that I had ESRD. I 'd never heard of it. When asked in the ER how long I'd been in renal failure, I sat there dumbfounded because I had no idea what they were talking about. 24 hours later I had my 1st chest catheter placed & begn dialysis treatments 3 times per week. There are 5 stages to renal disease & I was stage 5, Kidney Failure. Needing dialysis 156 times per year or a kidney transplant to live.I cried - privately, sobbed when I was home alone, gave myself a pity party & returned to the land of daily living.
I am blessed. I have had 19 interventional surgeries since that date. 6 since December 2011. The most recent was a graft to create veins since my own had failed in 5 prior attempts. I am sharing this so that you know on any given day in Harford County over 100 of your neighbors - children, teens, adults & senior citizens undergo dialysis awaiting transplants.
Please consider becoming an organ donor. People donate cars, shoes, etc. when they no longer need them. How about a liver or a kidney.etc.? I have a donor, so this is not for me. It is for the 21 year old, 10 year old & the widowed Mom with 2 young children who share my disease.Bless them & give the gift of life & hope. Thank you, Karen Green

A final note: My diagnosis was devastating, but it gave me time to reflect and to thank God that I landed in Havre de Grace among some of the greatest people in the world and in Harford County among so many fabulous people. Whwther I am able to be transpalnted this Fall or not, I'll be okay, because of the fabulous support system of caring you all have given me.

What and EXCELLENT evening. I want to thank Cathy, Chad and Terri at the Activity Center for helping pull this event off. To all those that attended and those that donated: Your love and your support is surely overwhelming to Karen. I was absolutely amazed at the turn out and how we packed the Community Center.
