First Friday: Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting

The annual parade kicks off festivities at 6 p.m.

The holiday season officially begins Friday night in Havre de Grace with the annual parade and tree lighting.

The final First Friday of 2011 begins with the parade, beginning from the Lafayette statue at 6 p.m., and heading down St. John Street to Rochambeau Plaza (see photo for route). There, the official tree lighting will take place.

The tree was put in place last weekend.

The following individuals and groups are anticipated to take part in the parade:

Also, the Havre de Grace High School Chorus will be singing by the tree.

Will you be attending the parade? What part are you looking forward to most? Tell us in the comments.

Christmas Parade is nice but how about also turning out tomorrow morning between 10 & noon on Juniata Street to welcome home 130 heroes from the National Guard returning from Afghanistan. Let's make THAT a parade!

    What?!?!

130 National Guards are returning from Afghanistan, and the official announcement is a comment on the tree lighting page on Patch? I'd suggest that that big of an activity deserves a tad more recognition. email Sean.Welsh@patch.com and I expect he'll put this announcement on the front page.

Unless it's already somewhere else and I just don't know about it.

I found this article on the Baltimore Sun page:

It says the return will be on Old Bay lane though, not exactly a fitting place for any honorable return festivities.

I have worked in HdG (Industrial Park) for 2 1/2 years & am going for the 1st time, where would be a good place to view the parade? By the tree? How about a place to park? My wife & 7 year old son are coming up from Bel Air to join me. Looking forward to this!

After the parade tonight, Mr & Mrs Claus will be posing for photos at Santa's Workshop, on Washington St. I'll be there to take photos of Santa with children/families, and we'll print them on-site, so you'll take them home with you. The price of a 5x7 in a folder is only $5.00. Hope to see you then. Thanks!

. This is the first I have heard about the National Guard... I will be there, these guys have risked their lives of each and every on of us and I hope every one shows them respect, if you believe in what is going on over seas or not, this is about the troops not the war

Had a blast with the Drama Guild families. Hope there are some more pictures posted. Since we walk in it, we obviously miss what is going in front and behind us. It looked like a good size crowd. (If the word is out, hopefully today for National Guard we can get just as big a crowd).
