The May election for Havre de Grace City Council just got interesting.
Three more candidates have joined the fray. The deadline to file is 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
City Council President Bill Martin filed at mid-day Monday, becoming the third incumbent to announce his intentions to run for re-election. He confirmed the news at Monday's City Council meeting.
Robert Sawyer turned in paperwork on Friday and Joseph C. Smith declared his intention to file in an email to Patch before filing on Monday—his 48th birthday.
Sawyer and Smith join Barry Scharbrough as residents of Bulle Rock who have entered the election.
Incumbents Jim Miller and Fred Cullum each filed for re-election on the first day of the filing period.
They were joined by Dave Glenn—the first challenger to file.
The deadline to file for the May 8 election is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Candidates may file at City Hall.
Three seats are up for grabs.
Cullum, Martin and Miller are up for re-election this year. Mayor Wayne Dougherty and council members Randy Craig, John Correri and Barbara Wagner were elected last May.
Havre de Grace runs a non-partisan election every May.

I wonder why the author of this article thought it was important to point out that 3 council candidates are residents of Bulle Rock. Is HdG a city divided?

Thanks for reading.
There has been a push within Bulle Rock to have better representation on council, thus the reason for pointing out that three of the seven candidates are from that neighborhood.
I think it also outlines that some of the new residents in the community are looking to get involved in city government, which has been something the current administration has been hoping for.
Thanks,
Sean

I don't think we are divided it's just another development in HdeG no different then any other part, the people are the same as the rest of it's citizens.

Sean: Bulle Rock represents a large concentration of residents new to town. It seems logical that these new folks would like to become engaged and involved in their new home town.
