Council has the opportunity to adopt an amended version of Ordinance 943, pertaining to the mixed office employment zone—where Upper Chesapeake is planning a new hospital development.

More amendments are likely Monday night and some debate is likely to take place regarding whether or not the planning commission will be allowed to review concept plans for the site.

After an opening prayer, Mayor Wayne Dougherty and Councilman Bill Martin will recognize the Havre de Grace Seafood Festival with a "Clean Commute" award.

Green will be presented a key to the city from Mayor Dougherty and Council President Randy Craig.

Also during the presentation period of the meeting, Manager of Economic Development Meghan Simmons will address a community legacy grant application. Cindy Height will present on behalf of the 49th Annual Soroptimist Art Show.

Before voting on the MOE zone ordinance, council will also vote on the proposed community legacy grant resolution.

Council will consider four items of new business including three special events:

  1. Good Cause's Fun Fest » Oct. 28 at Tydings Park
  2. National Night Out » Aug. 7 on Ontario Street
  3. Amendment to First Friday application

Main Street's initial First Friday application will be revised to include the shut-down of two more blocks—on block of Pennington Avenue in either direction from the intersection at Washington Street.

The much-debated fence at 469 Commerce Street will be up for vote as a license agreement. The Fiocchi family has applied for the license agreement to allow a new variation of the fence to stand in the Union Avenue right-of-way.

Council will close the meeting by going into a closed session to discuss land aquisition.

"Clean Commute" award? Is that for trashing up every right of way in the city with illegal signs?

Clean commute award to seafood festival? Do people have any idea how many workers in HdG regularly ride a bicycle to work every day, summer or winter, to work at APG and nearby contractors and at other businesses? This award is a farce and disrespectful of people that are really giving their all to lead the way in carbon footprint reduction and healthy commuting.

If the mayor's office wants a list of deserving clean commuters we've got it.

If they're gonna have Green Commute award only for them using Smart Fortwo, does Sweet Devotion get the Black Commute award for running their Cupcake truck around the two county area 7 days a week?

to give special recognition to an event promoter who uses a compact car for advertising a home busiiness, leaving the thrifty car normally parked while the owner commutes to Philadelphia daily in a gas-thirsty Merceds just seems wrong. An award for the artwork on the bug? of course. but to suggest that an extra car saves energy -- that's plainly not thought out.

I would like to thank everyone for the surprise recognition last night. The Havre de Grace Rec Cheerleaders for their wondrous welcome, the many recreation volunteers for their support past and present, the citizens for allowing me to do a job I love, my friends and family for pitching in to assist whenever and wherever, the Department of Parks and Recreation for placing me in an amazing place, the many businesses and individuals who generously aid community events, the Police Department, DPW, Maintenannce, Administartive Assistants, Co-workers and others who advise and lend manpower, John Narvell, President of the Havre de Grace Recreation Committee for 28 years of working side-by-side, and to my wonderful husband, Art for being the silent, incredible support system that any erson would welcome. He is my anchor and my greatest fan and to God for blessing me with not only a phenomenal mate but for all of you.

The Key is a shared award. It has my name but it carries all of our efforts.

Gratefully,
Karen Green
