Charlotte 'Charlie' Barker Passes Away at 65
The wife of the former mayor of Havre de Grace died Jan. 15.
Havre de Grace lost its former first lady Tuesday.
Charlotte "Charlie" Barker died Jan. 15; she was 65.
Barker was the wife of former Havre de Grace Mayor Philip Barker, who was in office from 1997 to 2001.
For several years, Charlotte Barker battled plasma cell leukemia, according to The Aegis.
As a result of the rare blood disorder, abnormal cells build up in bone marrow and prevent other cells and platelets from performing their vital functions, according to the National Cancer Institute.
Despite her illness, Barker was known for her vitality and charm.
"I never saw Charlie anywhere that she didn't have a smile and a kind word for all," one Aegis editor wrote this week.
