Mike Hitchings will be on the sidelines coaching youth soccer in Havre de Grace come Saturday morning.

Thursday morning, however, he discovered something that might change his plans.

In an email to Patch Thursday afternoon, Hitchings said the fields and soccer goals at Harford County Parks & Recreation's Chapel Road complex were vandalized some time between 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The netting on the goals was cut, and damage was inflicted to the playing surface and surrounding turf, Hitchings said.

"This field is used daily by the soccer teams in the fall and lacrosse teams in the spring," Hitchings wrote. "It took a lot of work to get them, equip them, and keep them maintained. Vandalism like this is not a faceless crime as we have games on the fields this weekend and this will impact our games both in performance of the fields, and morale of the teams."

Hitchings also reported the incident to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

A spokesperson with the Harford County Sheriff's Office wasn't immediately available to provide further information on the report, as the department was handling the death of an officer Thursday morning.

Anyone with information may contact the Harford County Sheriff's Office at 410-838-6600.

Sean, thanks for posting! I want to make sure credit is given where credit is due...the damage was discovered by a member of the community and members of the Soccer Committee contacted the police.
Again, thanks for posting!
We need to make sure that vandalism like this is not considerd a faceless crime. The perpetrator(s) should be caught and made to pay appropriate restitution!

It's a darn shame that people don't have anything better to do.

Wish kids these days appreciated what they do have and how hard people work to get the community something to do other then drugs and theft.

My son plays on these fields. We sign our children up to play sports and be active and someone has to come along and do something so mean and nasty. I hope the police catch the person(s) who did this!

This is what happens when people raise kids who have no respect for anyone or anything else. Is there a parent in the county who will honestly ask themselves "could my son/daughter have been involved?" Nah....not MY angel!!

If they drove through the nets with a car there should be some scratches on the car hood.
