Board to Vote on HdG High School Plans Next Week

The Harford County Board of Education has four options based on a recent study.

The future of Havre de Grace High School will be up for discussion at the Board of Education’s Dec. 3 meeting.

Board President Rick Grambo told Patch via email that tentatively, the vote on a recommendation for Havre de Grace High School’s new design will occur Monday.

Architects and the Harford County superintendent of schools presented a series of options during the Nov. 5 Board of Education meeting, which Patch will break down in a series of articles this week:

  • Option A: Renovation
  • Option B: Modernization
  • Option B-1: Modernization plus Congress Avenue closure
  • Option C: Replacement

Superintendent Dr. Robert Tomback recommended replacing the high school during the Nov. 5 meeting but the board tabled the decision so it could review the design team's report.

Do you think Havre de Grace High School should be replaced? Tell us in the comments.

Complete replacement! If there is only renovation or modernization, that is basically waisting money on a "bandaid" that will only be a temporary fix. Havre de Grace High School was built in 1955. When teachers have to cover computers with plastic when there is an impending storm so there won't be water damage, and the whole tech wing floods with every storm, to name a couple of issues, I'd say it is time for a new high school.
